Resveratrol for Lung Cancer
Smoking is a horrible habit. It can cause lung cancer, among other things. But if a smoker makes drinking red wine a part of his daily routine, he may just prevent himself from contracting lung cancer. This is because there is a compound in red wine that is a very powerful antioxidant. This compound is resveratrol.
Resveratrol is a polyphenol found in the skin of red grapes, hence, in red wine, too. The compound, while still in the skin of grapes, acts as a sheild against harmful things in the environment, such as fungi or bacteria. When taken by humans, they also protect us against cell damage.
One particular study that show how resveratrol helps those who are smokers show that smokers who drink red wine every day has lower risks of developing lung cancer. Those who drank any other type of alcohol, including white wine, had the same chances of developing lung cancer as those smokers who didn’t drink any alcohol at all. It seemed that red wine was the only factor that contributed to the lower lung cancer risks for these smokers.
However, it should also be noted that even these smokers who drink red wine still have higher chances of getting lung cancer than those who do not smoke at all.
