high fructose corn syrupIf you look on the back of the food that you regularly eat, chances are that there is High Fructose Corn Syrup or HFCS contained within it. This is a sugar alternative that is now being used in replace of sugar because it costs much less and is easier to produce. However, it is NOT the same as sugar. In fact, high fructose corn syrup is incredibly unhealthy for you.

HFCS is a sweetner as well as a preservative that is made by chanding the glucose inside of cornstarch into fructose which is a kind of sugar. It helps to extend the shelf life of foods and makes the production of foods much easier and faster – thus costing less for the food developers who make our food. But it has long been known that articifical sweetners and fake sugars are not healthy for your body because they are not natural – they are completely artificial and were never meant to be ingested into the human body.

Many studies have shown that high fructose corn syrup causes people to eat more food and make them have a heavier appetite then they ever have had – which will cause weight gain and obesity. It also slows down your metabolism so that you cannot process foods fast enough and they are then converted into body fat – something that nobody loves! High fructose corn syrup also promotes diabetes and causes many health complications such as obesity, heart burn, upset stomach, indigestion, headache, nausea, heart disease, and some studies have even shown that it causes cancer. These studies have been performed since HFCS has become more and moe regular in foods since the 1970′s when it was invented.

If you have been thinking about the effects of high fructose corn syrup on your health – think again. Avoid it and stay away from it as much as possible. You will be glad you did because of the harmful things that it can do to your body. Enjoy a healthy and happy life WITHOUT high fructose corn syrup!

    What should be used as a sugar substitue? Is normal white sugar okay or is it considered a “fake sugar” as well? If it is a fake sugar what isn’t a fake sugar?

    I stopped eating HFCS completely almost a year ago. I had the runs for a week, but I wasn’t that hungry, I knew right when I should stop eating, and I lost 10 pounds in that week, and didn’t have to do anything else but not eat that one thing. Now that I am detoxed from HFCS if I have any at all I get bad stomach aches. How can something that is claimed to be not bad for you make you sick just because your body isn’t used to it at all anymore. I am planning to make a PSA (Public Service Announcements) about it, to maybe help counter act those pro HFCS commercials.
